    1. Dubai is the top destination for job searches abroad

US citizens state that Dubai is their top destination when searching for jobs abroad, reveals research by health benefits provider Aetna International, released in July 2015.

"Dubai has now overtaken London as the most popular city for Americans looking for jobs overseas," explains Caroline Pain, marketing director at Aetna International, in a statement.

According to the report, London, which was at the top of the wish list since 2006, comes a close second. Paris and Singapore follow in third and fourth place respectively. The top ten places also include Rome, Geneva, Amsterdam, Cape Town, Mexico City and Ottawa.

    2. The UAE has the highest percentage of inflow of HNWIs over the past decade

You may know the UAE as a place of relaxation, exploration and culture, but what you may not know is that it is also home to a large number of HNWIs (high-net-worth individuals) and UHNWIs.

According to Knight Frank's latest Wealth Report, released in March 2015, the UAE has the highest percentage of inflow of HNWIs in the past ten years (21 per cent), when compared to countries such as the UK (14 per cent), Singapore (20 per cent), USA (one per cent), Hong Kong (12 per cent), Australia (14 per cent) and Canada (five per cent).

    3. Dubai is among the top four destinations for international travellers

Dubai ranks as the fourth most popular destination in the world for international travellers, according to MasterCard's Global Destination Cities Index, released in June 2015.

The index reveals that the emirate follows London, Bangkok and Paris, which are at numbers one, two and three, respectively.

"Since the inception of the Global Destination Cities Index in 2009, Dubai has continued to climb the ranks as an international travel destination for both business and leisure purposes," said Eyad Al Kourdi, country manager for the UAE at MasterCard. "The future ranking of the emirate looks very promising. As Dubai gears [up for] Expo 2020, we're excited to see the opportunities that will unfold to reinforce its position as a key economic driver."

    4. The UAE ranks first globally in terms of road quality

The UAE ranks first globally in the Quality of Roads Indicator in the Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016, released by the World Economic Forum last week.

According to state news agency WAM, the win came as a result of the infrastructure projects aimed at achieving the UAE 2021 vision.

    5. Dubai is the top destination in the world for Muslim shopping

Dubai ranks as the number one destination for Muslims to travel to for shopping purposes, according to Mastercard's Muslim Travel Shopping Index 2015, released last month.

"Dubai tops the list of shopping destinations for Muslims outright, being recognised as the first-placed Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) MTSI 2015 destination as well as heading the list of non-OIC destinations," the report states.

The shopping index analyses the trends and preferences of Muslim travellers' shopping preferences, based on the performance of 40 main international shopping destinations against a number of set criteria.

According to the index, Dubai scored 79.5 out of 100, surpassing Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in first place with a score of 73.3, and Instabul, Turkey, in third place with a score of 64.2.

    6. Dubai ranked second best city globally for expats looking to start a business

Dubai is the second-best city globally for expat entrepreneurs, reveals HSBC's Expat Explorer 2015 survey, released last month.

The cosmopolitan city follows Singapore in first place, and Hong Kong and London in third and fourth places, respectively, as good places to start a business.

"Given these supportive conditions, it's not surprising that Dubai attracts twice as many expats looking to start their own businesses (nine per cent) compared to the global average (four per cent). This is a ringing endorsement of the government's diversification efforts and its investment in setting up the infrastructure needed to nurture entrepreneurs," says Khalid Elgibali, head of retail banking and wealth management for the UAE and MENA at HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, in a statement.

According to the report, "[The UAE has an] excellent macroeconomic environment, [its] highly developed infrastructure and strong institutions provide a solid base, and the Emirati economy is significantly more diversified than other GCC countries."
