Travel: The Aegean Coast – Refreshed in Turkey

Having just returned from a long weekend in Turkey, I feel refreshed, relaxed and just tanned-enough, to receive some raised eyebrow envy from my non-journo friends.

Marmaris is fondly known as the Turkish Riviera-a fishing village, busy port and well developed tourist resort on the Mediterranean coast; Located in Muğla Province, southwest Turkey, it has miles of white sandy beaches and a ten months of sun.

Aegean coast - Turkey travel feature

With the temperatures just starting to rise in May, it is a great time to go to get some bargain sun and avoid the hardcore sun worshiping crowds. With a previous visit to Antalya a distant memory (apart from the beautiful beaches and long hot days), I was keen to get back to the white sands and dip my toes in the crystal-clear water.

If you're feeling adventurous, do a hotel switch halfway through your vacation, and break it up to two spots. This is a remarkably straightforward thing to plan, especially if you choose a reputable group which has sister hotels across the region. And as there are so many beautiful locations along the coastline, why does one deserve all the 'you' time?!

Aegean coast - Turkey travel feature

With most of the resorts along the Aegean coast offering a range of swimming pools, spas and private blue flag beaches, you are bound to have a good time.

But if you are looking for something beyond the realms of the hotel, you can be certain to find some culture too. Bordered by eight countries and straddling two continents, this diverse country is a mix of sights, sounds and cultural customs, which makes it more than just a sun, sea and sand lazy beach holiday (although on this occasion, this was one of the bonuses!).

For a really-chilled break, you only need to leave your sunbed for half a day at a time, and go exploring in the town. A must see are the dancing water fountains in the main square. A busy tourist spot, but impressive nevertheless, and you can hobnob with all the sailing types who jet in and moor up for the night.

You should also make a visit to the marina and check out the fashion boutiques, which sell a bit more than touristy garb- and often kit out the sailor's wives for their glamorous, on board adventures! Head out of the new, and into the old town, where can see more local produce, and if you can, you should persevere to the top of some slightly steep stairs, which take you to the Panorama Restaurant and Bar. Get there for sunset, and treat yourself to a drink and the view.

Party animals will love the aptly named 'Bar Street' which does what it says on the tin. I can't vouch for any establishments on said street, as I strolled down in the daylight, but it seemed reminiscent of carefree holidays in my early twenties in Majorca.. Say no more. There is a reason why I don't do tequila shots anymore.

However, as I am no longer such a hedonist-I would much rather look after my head, and body, so embraced the hotel spas and pools, which were widely available at both hotels I stayed in. The first G-Hotel Grand Azur, Marmaris offered large, luxury accommodation in a typically luxury style. Big bathrooms (with Jacuzzi bath), rooftop Steak Bar, delicious cocktails and a Turkish Bath were some of the few things I tried during my stay.

A visit to Turkey wouldn't be complete without at least one boat trip. If you are a social butterfly and like meeting new people, you can join an organised trip to Olu Deniz, where you can take a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon; Or depending on where you stay, you can book a day trip to Rhodes for a Greek lunch, as it's only an hour away on the Catamaran.

Aegean coast - Turkey travel feature

Seeing the sunset at sea is one of my favourite things, and being based on the marina, there are many boats that you can charter privately too. My advice is to get a small group, lots of iced wine and head out for the afternoon/early evening. Make sure to tell the Captain you want plenty of stop off points to jump in to the crystal water and I guarantee you will get the best tan (and Instagram pictures).

The latter part of my trip involved upping sticks to the D-Resort Gocek, which was just 90 minutes away by mini bus, but a world away in the style of resort. A stunning modern hotel, situated next to the marina and the small town of Gocek (it is also just 30 minutes from the airport, so longer in the sun before checkout!) It also has two outdoor pools, restaurants and the very popular Breeze bar located on the beach. Gaining a reputation for its newly designed Spa, which is a haven of peace and tranquillity, and the gym which could rival any member's club in the UK- this is aimed at the luxury market.

Aegean coast - Turkey travel feature

With most guests spending time at the perfectly formed private beach (which you can get to via golf buggy, bike hire or 10-minute stroll), the atmosphere is buzzing. But you are not smothered in someone else's Factor 30 as there is plenty of space to relax, chill out, and splash about in the sea.

If you are looking for a slice of paradise in quiet, stunning surroundings, the simplicity and elegance of D-Resort Gocek will not disappoint. Both restaurants I tried for dinner- Günaydın Steakhouse, which does a delicious everything (I had the taster menu), and the experimental, but buzzing Q restaurant situated in the mountainside were both delicious. Is Peruvian-Japanese going to be the next big thing? You heard it here first!

Even though this is a recognised holiday destination, the pace is slow and the locals are super friendly. And with hundreds of blue flag beaches making up its 400 miles of white sand, it is no wonder it is a place to come and chillax. I managed to get through two books. Like I said, the most difficult choice was which ones to pack!

Kashmiri man plan to join ISIS foiled; deported from Turkey

The agencies feel that if the growing influence of the ISIS is not checked, it can be detrimental to the situation in the Valley.

Srinagar: A 21-year-old Kashmiri man, who was allegedly trying to join the terror group ISIS, has been deported from Turkey to India after being picked up by Turkish authorities, official sources here said on Monday.

Srinagar resident Afshan Parvaiz was deported from the Turkish capital of Ankara on May 25 and whisked away to an undisclosed destination by security agencies in Delhi, the sources said. He was being assessed by various security agencies, they said.

Parvaiz had left home after an argument with his father, who wanted him to join a college while the son was interested in religious studies,  the sources said. They said he booked himself a seat on a flight to Teheran on March 23. He was scheduled to return to Delhi on April 9 after exploring avenues for religious studies in Europe, they said.

The Kashmiri man, who is the second person to be deported from Turkey in the last two months, apparently sent a message to his family to tell them that he was facing some "problems", the sources said.

When the police and other agencies in Kashmir were informed about this, a probe was launched to locate him, they said.

According to the sources, the security agencies then got in touch with their Iranian counterparts, who found out that Parvaiz was travelling to Ankara.

The authorities in Ankara were contacted and he was picked up while he was travelling in a bus in the Turkish capital, they said. He was sent to India on May 25 by a Turkish Airlines flight, the sources said.

In March, Mohammed Taha, a resident of Srinagar, was deported from Turkey and sent to India. He has been put in preventive custody, they said.

Security agencies in India have viewed their alleged plans to join the ISIS with concern. They believe that some Kashmiri youth are getting radicalised by "jihadi" propaganda material shared by the ISIS on the Internet.

The agencies feel that if the growing influence of the ISIS is not checked, it can be detrimental to the situation in the Valley.

Recently, an audio clip had surfaced on social media sites in which Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant commander Zakir Moosa could be heard talking about establishing an Islamic caliphate in the Valley.

The police had carried out an analysis of the clip, comparing the voice with that of Moosa's in earlier videos and audios.

The 5.40-minute audio warned Kashmir's separatist leaders against interfering in the HM's plan to establish a caliphate as the ISIS has done in parts of Syria and Iraq.

The call for a caliphate is being seen as a worrying twist to militancy in Kashmir, which has largely revolved around a demand for independence or secession to Pakistan, without an overtly religious subtext.

During the recent protests in the Valley, ISIS flags were waved in certain areas, and slogans supporting the terror group were painted on walls.

However, Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Sallahuddin had said there was no place for groups such as the ISIS, Al-Qaeda or the Taliban in Jammu and Kashmir.

Destination: baptism. Diversion: famous Nashville eatery

Olivia's baptism, at the large church's 8:30 a.m. service, was mother's and my destination for Mother's Day as soon as we heard about it. It brought together four female generations that morning: Olivia; her mother, Allison; her Grammy (Allison's mother and my sister) Pamela Fagans; and "Gigi" (my mother, Wanda Wallen Osborne). With Nashville suburb Hendersonville a five-hour drive from our home in Kingsport, Mom and I knew we'd have to get there Saturday and spend the night to assure we made it to the church on time.

And that left me plotting a diversion for Saturday evening. I settled on dinner at the Loveless Cafe, which I would have sworn I'd taken my parents to on years-ago trips to Nashville — but hadn't. If you're not familiar with the Loveless, it's on the opposite side of Nashville from Hendersonville. In fact, it was about 35 miles from our hotel next door to the church in Hendersonville. I didn't explain that to Mother and just drove straight there when we got to Nashville.

Pamela and her husband, Larry, weren't making the drive from their Knoxville home until bright and early Sunday. Allison and her longtime beaux, Tom Langley, were driving at the same time as mother and I — making the 400-plus-mile trek from  Augusta, Ga. Allison and Olivia's father divorced several yeas ago, but remain friendly to the point that Saturday evening Allison and Tom were to join Olivia, her sister Abbie, and their father, Jeff, for a birthday celebration among Jeff's family at The Melting Pot. I love The Melting Pot. But I was sure mother would prefer the traditional Southern fare of the Loveless.

We arrived at the Loveless (8400 Highway 100, Nashville) just after 6 p.m. It being Saturday night, I was prepared for a long wait. They don't take reservations on the weekends but do so the rest of the week only for groups of nine to 32, and with at least 24 hours notice. We were both hungry, it actually being 7 p.m. for our stomachs. We were disheartened to see numerous people waiting outside. But we were in luck being a party of two. The hostess said it would be 15 minutes. But it was more like five when our buzzer went off. We were led through the large, crowded dining room on the right and seated at a two-top along a back wall. It was an excellent vantage point for people watching, plus we got to stare at everyone else's food as we passed all the other tables.

The Loveless menu is not lacking for choices. The restaurant serves breakfast all day. As soon as you're seated, a plate of hot biscuits and a selection of homemade jams are placed before you. I planned to order breakfast and thought mother would too. Neither of us did. I opted for pit-smoked turkey breast with cranberry barbecue sauce and hoecakes, caramel sweet potatoes and fried okra. Not satisfied with just biscuits and jam, I indulged in a fried green tomato and pimento cheese biscuit as well. Mother, having spied the dessert case on the way in and thoroughly entertained with an endless plate of fresh biscuits and jam, decided to go "light" with her entree choice and opted for a three-pick vegetable plate. Everything was delicious. We were stuffed and got two desserts to go: coconut cream pie (which our wonderful waitress, Barbara, cited as her favorite) and "Steeplechase" pie (a version of "Derby" pie — basically pecan pie with chocolate chips and a hint of bourbon).

The next morning was hectic but we all made it to the church on time.

FBCH Minister of Children Mark Hayman spoke of Olivia's path to Christ — she was led largely by her friend Selah Smith — from the church's baptistry high above the altar. Mother and I, along with Larry and Tom, were second row center in the massive sanctuary. We need not have worried about seating in regard to having a good view. Large television screens showed Hayman and Olivia in closeup mode. Olivia's mother and grandmother were with her "backstage" but off camera. All three joined us in our pews for the remainder of the service.

Afterward, we all got to spend a few minutes chatting with FBCH Lead Pastor Dr. Bruce Chesser. We left feeling blessed that Olivia has found a wonderful church home (and, obviously, true "fishers of men" in Selah and her family).

The three mothers in the group deferred to Olivia on how to spend the day. She chose visiting two nearby parks and lunch at a Japanese teppanyaki place.

Our carryout pie slices from the Loveless lasted almost until Knoxville on our way home Sunday. Mother's leftover Loveless biscuits and jam lasted her, as one-by-one morning treats, for a few days. The Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we'll eat again at the Loveless.

The joy of being with Olivia at her baptism, and the memories of a Mother's Day together, will last us all our lives.

‘Motherland Beckons’ Partners Turkey’s MUSIAD, To Facilitate Business Opportunities Among Youths

Motherland Beckons has recently signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with world class business enterprise, MUSIAD which would avail youths in Nigeria and Africa at large an opportunity to tap into the business and culture mix of both continents.

Motherland Beckons is a creation of Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye, who is dedicated to opening Africa to the world and attracting Africans in Diaspora to the motherland. Over the years, Motherland Beckons has contributed to the wellbeing of Africans in no small way by offering a veritable platform to the Africans in the Diaspora and lovers of Africa to visit, invest and possibly come back to settle down in Africa.

MUSIAD which stands for Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association is a "BUSINESSMEN'S ASSOCIATION" founded on May 5, 1990, in Istanbul, Turkey, by concerned businessmen who have a vision to forestall human rights and supremacy of the law, justice and equality, peace and security, and the welfare and happiness of the people.

The Company in its philantropic modality is an active and strong Non-governmental organisation (NGO) that provides the platform for development, with dialogue, co-operation and solidarity as tools created for the purpose of contributing to the social, cultural, political, economic, scientific and technological development of individuals and institutions.

With over 50,000 members cut across 11,000 corporations with branches in over 175 locations throughout the world, MUSIAD with the activation of the MoU has established an e-commerce portal where all Africans people can connect to purchase products from Turkey.

The main headliner for this signed agreement is to create a concerted effort to connect Turkey with the entire continent of Africa and at the same time, create a platform in Turkey for Africa where the whole world can come to trade and exchange cultures with Africa .

In other words, those who deem the travel miles of Africa enervating can fly in from Europe, Asia and the Americas to Konya, Turkey, to connect with all parts of Africa.

This was what gave birth to ATTC which stands for Africa Turkey Trade Center situated on the 20th floor of KULE plaza, Konya.

In connecting with the entire continent of Africa, plans have been made to establish business offices in all the 54 African countries which commenced last year with the Lagos and Ghana offices opened.

This is a platform created for the whole continent of Africa in one portal for the world to trade and connect with especially people of African descent and lovers of Africa. People all around the world can log on to www.attc.web and be rest assured of a business like never before.

Cote Divoire and the rest are slated for 2017. The forum welcomes business interactions amongst entrepeneurs and investors, so only serious minded business people and organizations are given audience on the platform.

Also, they are in the process of twinning a major city in Nigeria with a major city, Konya. This process is meant to set the shores of Africa ablaze beyond the borders and as well bring together universities of varying culture, customs and lifestyle for educational enhancement. This platform also births the mixture of African and Turkish music in a concert tagged "Africa Turkey Music amalgamation".

Motherland Beckons on the 1st of May, 2017 unveiled the Diaspora Nigerian Economic Recovery and Growth Plan–DNERGP at its headquarters in Lekki Lagos. It is a tourism initiative to revive the ailing Nigerian economy, in consonance with the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan 2017-2020-ERGP by the federal government.

This comes as an actualization of the benefits and vision of the MoU signed in December. The efforts to resurrect the ailing tourism sector and yet convalesce the entertainment industry has brought to the fore a leisure and entertainment 'investment' which would cover accommodation, feeding and transport for three days of fun, recreation, authentic African music, drama, poetry, nightclubbing, etc.

Hence, for ease of operations and logistic flexibility, activities have been covered with the creation of Destination Lagos; Destination Cross River; Destination Abuja and Destination South West. A foremost tour operator in Nigeria has been appointed to see the activities through. With this initiative, expectations are high for the first operational year to the tune of one million Nigerians and their one million friends, with a corresponding $2B injection into the Nigerian economy.

Earlier estimates did not take into consideration the cost of a return ticket by diasporans who would eventually spend 1000USD and additional expenses on up-keep, souvenirs, shopping, and sometimes, tips. Hence this would most likely translate to about $4,000 per visiting diasporan in rough estimates. Some diasporans may come with more than one friend with each fr iend spending a minimum of 1000USD.

Moreover, with convictions and belief that from the projected 2 million visitors annually, about ten percent (about 200,000) would take advantage of the available business opportunities offered by the Motherland Beckons/MUSIAD Agreement to invest a minimum of $10,000 in the economy. This automatically translates to an additional $20B investment into the Nigerian economy.

As MUSIAD is a conglomerate of business minds, there is also the business plan where Diaspora Nigerians who are interested in doing business at home but cannot fathom what to do and how to go about it can be distributors and part owners in companies and businesses with good rate of returns on investment, under the auspices of the Motherland Beckons/MUSIAD Treaty, signed in December,2016.

MUSIAD is bent on creating a Diaspora Nigerian Industrial Zone for an eventual production of the products of these companies after three years of test run and acclimatization with the huge Nigerian market.About 2000 of these companies are ready to start business in Nigeria as soon as possible.

10 insanely affordable summer destinations for 2017

It's that time of year again – school is out and you're headed on your ultimate summer vacation. Whether you're traveling with friends, family, a partner or solo, these 10 affordable summer destinations won't disappoint. They may even leave you some extra money to save – or spend while you're exploring the world.

Some general tips for affordable summer destinations: Travel on Tuesday or Wednesday for the cheapest fares; July 9 is considered the most expensive day to fly of the summer; airfare to Europe is cheaper than ever this summer.

Barcelona

If you're headed to Europe this summer, Barcelona should be on your list as one of Europe's most affordable summer destinations. With great weather and short, inexpensive flights to hotspots like Mallorca and Ibiza, it's the perfect spot to spend summer. Yes, you'll encounter some crowds, but prices are so low this year it's still the perfect time to go.

Why it's a steal: According to Kayak, flight prices to many Spanish cities have decreased this summer – Barcelona flights are 35% less than last summer, and median airfare is $695. An Airfarewatchdog search yielded flights from New York City to Barcelona under $500 for the months of August and September on Air Berlin and TAP Portugal, so check these airlines first for deals to one of Europe's most affordable summer destinations.

On the hotel front, things are shaping up in travelers' favor as well this summer in Barcelona. U232 Hotel has an average nightly rate around $200 for summer stays, according to Wander. Hilton Diagonal, only a 10-minute walk from the beach, is offering a pool package for those looking to relax in the sun. And, Generator Hostel Barcelona offers even cheaper nightly rates if you're willing to share a room.

Don't miss: Summer brings exciting festivals, including Pride Barcelona, the feast of St. John (Sant Joan), and the San Miguel Mas i Mas music festival.

Pittsburgh

Underrated and up-and-coming Pittsburgh is a family vacation-ready affordable summer destination this summer. Check out a Pirates baseball game, discover culinary treasures, and explore the esteemed Andy Warhol Museum. Outdoor lovers can hike Mount Washington to be rewarded by perfect sunset skyline views.

Why it's a steal: Spirit Airlines starts non-stop flights to/from seven U.S. destinations to Pittsburgh this month, opening up competition and delivering affordable fares under $100 round-trip (as seen in searches on Airfarewatchdog). According to Kayak, flight prices are down by 12% compared to last summer. The Steel City is also a quick train ride from New York City, and is within driving distance from major Midwest cities like Cleveland.

Find an affordable boutique experience at the Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, a Kimpton Hotel that opened just two years ago. Wander reports an average nightly rate for the summer months under $250, which is a great deal for all it has to offer – including pet-friendly rooms, daily happy hour, free bikes, a great location and an onsite fitness center.

British Columbia, Canada

Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday this summer, making it a festive time to visit one of Canada's favorite affordable summer destinations. It's a great time to go – summers in British Columbia are warm but not too hot, with average temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. And, the Canadian dollar is down by .5% compared to the U.S. dollar – great news for travelers from the States.

Why it's a steal: Kayak reports up to a 12% decrease in flight prices to Victoria and Vancouver from the U.S. For even more savings, check out Kelowna, which reports a 23% decrease in flight prices compared to last summer. Airfarewatchdog searches yield prices around $200 round-trip from major West Coast cities, giving you even more reason to visit your neighbors to the north this coming season.

Canada has been promoting free admission to its national parks and historic sites, and hotels like Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts are offering promotions for the big celebration. You can also find great off-season deals in winter ski destinations like Whistler – the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler, for instance, has rates averaging $200 per night, which is a steal for the property.

Don't miss: British Columbia is home to the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve near both Victoria and Vancouver. For a truly off-the-beaten-path summer experience, explore Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, a series of over 1,800 undeveloped islands that are known as "Canada's Galapagos."

You don't need to be outdoorsy to appreciate the BC Ale Trail, a guide to the province's many breweries. Or explore the urban epicenter of Vancouver, which is going big for the 1-5-0 with summer festivals and events, especially on Canada Day (July 1 to 3) at Canada Place.

Charleston, S.C.

Charleston will be one of the last places in the U.S. to experience the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21, and it's also a remarkably affordable summer destination this year. While temperatures in August will be high, the deals are most definitely worth the heat, as this Southern city has been gaining notoriety this past year for its food and sights, and high prices won't be far behind.

Why it's a steal: Flights are down 13% compared to last summer, according to CheapFlights, with a median airfare of $308 from major U.S. cities (as reported by Kayak). Liligo shows flights around $200 from New York City, making this East Coast gem even more accessible.

Many Charleston hotels, like the Belmond Charleston Place, are offering special eclipse packages, so book early before they're full. If you're not going for the eclipse, check out the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Charleston – Historic District for summer nightly special rates of $149.

Don't miss: Charleston offers beaches, shopping, James-Beard award winning chefs at some of the South's best restaurants, boat tours and beautiful plantations and gardens. Just beware that summer is also hurricane season, so consider these booking tips.

Bonus location: Nashville is another affordable summer destination to observe the total eclipse. Round-trip flights to Nashville average under $300, according to Kayak. Enjoy live music, barbecue and a totally cool celestial wonder all at the same time. Book the Embassy Suites Nashville South Cool Springs location with its Eclipse 2017 Package.

For more information on the total solar eclipse, visit NASA's website and make sure to take safety precautions. Istanbul

Terrorism threats and instability have put a dent in Turkey's tourism numbers this year, making it an unusually affordable time to visit. Warm weather and cultural excitement make this coastal city a great international destination for your summer vacation. Go in early September to avoid peak season crowds and fewer lines at popular tourist sights.

Why it's a steal: Airfare to Istanbul this summer remains extremely affordable, with round-trip fares from many major U.S. cities (including Los Angeles and San Francisco!) around $800 round-trip, as found on Airfarewatchdog.

Hotel prices are also extremely affordable, with five-star properties like Hypnos Design Hotel Istanbul and The Grand Tarabya averaging nightly rates around $100, according to Wander.

Be advised that the State Department recommends that U.S. citizens should "Carefully consider the need to travel to Turkey at this time, and avoid travel to southeast Turkey due to the persistent threat of terrorism." Oakland, Calif.

Oakland sometimes gets lost in the shadow of tourist-favorite San Francisco, but it's a stellar destination in its own right. Great summer weather, vibrant neighborhoods, an impressive culinary scene and family-fabulous attractions make it an affordable summer destination that offers both great proximity to nearby favorites – including San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma – and plenty of reasons to stick around and enjoy Oakland. Plus it has its own international airport that's usually easier – and faster – to navigate than nearby SFO.

Why it's a steal: More airlines are serving the Oakland and San Francisco airports this year, according to Tom Spagnola of CheapOair, meaning prices are lower, thanks to competition and low-cost carriers entering the market. Flights can be as low as $49 round-trip from other California cities, with average round-trip tickets into Oakland under $300 this year, according to Kayak.

For hotels, Hilton's Garden Inn San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge has the perfect location between the two Bay Area cities. Summer rates are as low as $138 per night, and come with skyline views and a complimentary shuttle service to nearby attractions.

Don't miss: Uptown, Temescal, Jack London … Oakland is at its best in its neighborhood retail, entertainment and restaurant districts. Savor the natural beauty that makes the Bay Area so irresistible with a stroll along the Bay at Jack London, a walk around Lake Merritt or a hike through the redwoods in one of the regional parks along Skyline Drive.

Impress the kids with a trip to Fairyland (best for kids under 6 or 7), the Oakland Zoo, Oakland Athletics' baseball game, Chabot Space and Science Center and the Oakland Museum. Annual summer events worth checking out include free Pedalfest, Oakland Pride and Eat Real Festival. San Francisco is a quick BART ride away, and both Sonoma and Napa are about an hour by car.

Poland

Summer is the perfect time to explore everything Poland has to offer. Whether you're experiencing Krakow's music and film festivals or Wroclaw's Market Square, cheap airfare and comfortable weather will make this affordable summer destination worth the longer flight.

Why it's a steal: Round-trip flights from major U.S. East Coast cities are around $700 for summer, according to Airfarewatchdog. Since summer is peak season, this is quite the deal for trans-Atlantic travel.

Visitors can enjoy inexpensive nightly hotel rates thanks to the favorable exchange rate. Look at DoubleTree Hotel Wroclaw, Hilton Garden Inn Krakow or H15 Boutique in Warsaw – all which have average nightly rates below $150 for summer.

Don't miss: Whether it's the capital Warsaw or the Baltic city of Gdansk, Poland is earning itself a spot on many bucket lists this summer.

Notable summer events include the midsummer tradition Wianki Festival, Gdnask Shakespeare Festival and the popular Live Music Festival in Krakow.

Hilo, Hawaii

Hilo earns a spot as one of the best affordable summer destinations this year. Hilo's lush, tropical surroundings offer a striking counterpoint to the otherworldly lava fields on display elsewhere on the Big Island, and visitors enjoy a more relaxed, local feel here. But take note: Hilo is quickly becoming a popular tourist destination for the islands, so visit before the crowds – and prices – rise.

Why it's a steal: According to Cheapflights, airfare is down 13% over last summer, but Hilo has seen a 20% increase in travelers this year alone compared to last. Round-trip fares average $824 from U.S. cities, with lower prices available from West Coast locales like Seattle and San Jose.

Hilo has an affordable vacation rental market, with Flipkey properties starting as low as $99 per night for a one-bedroom rental. The conveniently located Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo also has affordable nightly rates starting at $130 for the summer months – guests even get a free round of golf at the on-site nine hole course.

Cartagena, Colombia

A Caribbean getaway that's worry-free from hurricanes, Cartagena stands out as an affordable summer destination. Summer is a great time to go, as July and August are part of Colombia's dry season, so you can enjoy everything from the walled city to nearby rainforests with great weather. And with a favorable exchange and more airline routes than in years past, Cartagena won't break the bank this summer.

Why it's a steal: Kayak's 2017 Travel Guide named Cartagena as the top wallet-friendly flight destination. Airfarewatchdog shows round-trip flights from Florida cities, Baltimore, Atlanta, Boston, D.C. and New York City under $400.

Nightly summer rates for Cartagena are also very affordable, thanks to the exchange rate. Relax poolside at a great price at the Hilton Cartagena Hotel, which is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea on three sides, and has nightly rates under $100 on TripAdvisor.

Don't miss: There's no shortage of things to do in Colombia and Cartagena during summer. From the city's beaches to popular salsa dance clubs outside the walled city, Cartagena offers beach escapes with cultural flair. Popular day trips from the city include El Totumo, a mud volcano with fabled healing properties; as well as a ferry ride to the Rosario Islands, a 30-island archipelago.

Athens

While summer is always a popular time to visit Greece's capital, this summer is one of the most affordable times to go. Head to Athens in late summer to beat the crowds and still enjoy historical sites and Mediterranean cuisine at a great price – falafel and tzatziki are calling.

Why it's a steal: Airfare is down by 13% this summer compared to last year, according to Kayak, with round-trip fares under $800 from Boston, Toronto, Miami, D.C. and even Los Angeles found on Airfarewatchdog. Due to Greece's struggling economy, you'll spend less on food, attractions and accommodations this coming season.

It's possible to find affordable hotel rates this summer. Check out the popular Hilton Athens – with views of the Acropolis – which offers a Cultural Weekend for Two Package with 30% of a two-night stay, including free tickets to popular Athens museums.

Best time to go: For some winter sun and to miss the rainy season and relentless heat of high summer.

Bulgaria

A stunning landscape of soaring pine covered mountains to sandy beaches Bulgaria has it all and for a fraction of the price that you would spend in most of mainland Europe. Things to look out for are their local take on greek salad called shopka, a fruity liquor called rafia and white and red tassels called martenitsa – a perfect accessory for you or your home.

Best time to go: June is rose season when the sweet smell of ones of the countries biggest exports fills the air.

Lisbon

The Portuguese capital has been shooting up the ranks as a top city break destination of late thanks to its proximity to stunning beaches, affordable dining, and trendy new quarters such as the LX Factory. Think stylish concept stores, independent galleries and a plethora of instagramable brunch spots.

Tokyo

As vibrant and enticing as the neons sign for which it is famed this town is a wonderful mix of old and new where temples and shrines can be found by futuristic arcades and hedgehog cafés. Spend a day in design-hub Daikanyama and roam the brightly coloured streets of Harajuku complete with living anime characters.

German Travel Company Seeks to Add Pelion to its Cycling Destinations

By Eleftheria Pantziou

German travel company Islandhopping (Inselhüpfen), which focuses on alternative forms of tourism, is looking into the prospects of adding Mount Pelion to its cycling destinations in Greece. The company particularly organizes "sail & bike" holidays.

Located in Thessaly, central Greece, Mount Pelion is considered the ideal destination for "hotel & bike" holidays, due to its long cycling paths and natural beauty.

Representatives of Islandhopping's Greek subsidiary, "Cycle Expedition Greece", have repeatedly visited the mountain, while they recently held talks with Thessaly's vice governor, Thanasis Pedis.

Speaking to the Greek Travel Pages, managing director of  "Cycle Expedition Greece" Giannis Falelakis said the region could become a major destination for cyclists from April to June, as long as the Greek state, local officials and entrepreneurs maintain and promote the region's cycling paths. "Safety and infrastructure are essential for a destination to be suitable for cyclists," Falelakis underlined. "The area's cycling paths should be maintained, while traffic signs should also be added," said.

Islandhopping for the last 11 years has been organizing "sail & bike" holidays to the Cyclades, the Southern Aegean islands and the Ionian islands for travelers coming mainly from the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, the U.K., Australia and Switzerland. "Participants particularly enjoy sailing and touring the islands on their bicycles when on shore", Falelakis noted.

The company is also organizing bicycle tours to Croatia, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Denmark, the UK, Vietnam, Montenegro, Albania and Turkey.

For a trip to Spain, and other food destinations, head to the Oceanfront

Did I tell you I took a culinary trip to Spain in early May?

No passport, packing or planes involved. I got in my car and drove to Salacia Prime Seafood and Steaks in Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. That's where I attended a Spanish-themed wine dinner.

I've been to Catch 31 at the Hilton many times, but had never set foot in Salacia. It's a restaurant-within-a-restaurant, tucked over on the side with exclusive oceanfront patio seating and a very fancy feel. From the cobalt blue mosaic tile fireplace to the leather-padded wall to the dark wood ceiling, linen tablecloths and gorgeous dinnerware, this place is posh.

Salacia features a monthly series called Vino With the Vintner. On May 4, patrons were treated to the cuisine of Spain, such as octopus, arugula salad with serrano ham, chorizo-quail-rabbit paella, fennel-crusted rack of lamb and a tart-flan-churros trio for dessert. Each course was beautifully plated, professionally served and delicious. Starting with the glass of Marques De Gelida Brut Gran Reserva 2012 that was handed to us all upon entering, each course was accompanied by lovely sips of Spanish wines to enhance and complement each dish. A trio of ports was served with dessert.

I took my friend Gale, who is partial to her own cooking and her favorite New York restaurants. She once had a less-than-stellar visit to Salacia, but admitted that based on what she had this night, she would definitely return .

Perhaps the fact that Salacia Executive Chef Dan Elinan's pedigree includes working at Daniel and Le Bernardin in New York City and The French Laundry and Norman's in Orlando is proof positive that this restaurant is worth your attention.

Vino With the Vintner goes to Chile on June 1, and Elinan has quite a menu planned, including Chilean sea bass ceviche, pisco- scented Verlasso salmon, Chilean beef empanadas, Chilean pot roast and a dessert trio of tres leches, chocolate-dunked cuchufli and leche asada.

Elinan introduces each dish and talks a bit about the ingredients. Amanda Einhorn and sommelier Don Paul will tell you about the wines.

The reception begins at 6 p.m. with a glass of Pascal Toso sparkling brut; dinner is at 6:30. Prepare to be very full at the end. Happily full.

Tickets are $85 at www.salaciavb.com. For questions regarding the dinners, contact Kara Dough at 757-491-3000.

Salacia Prime Seafood & Steaks, 3001 Atlantic Ave., Virginia Beach, 757-213-3473, www.salaciavb.com.

Like knowing where your food comes from? Who grows it? Who makes it? Then you need to know about the Kings Grant Farmers Market that will be held every other Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning June 8.

In the parking lot of Kings Grant Baptist Church, you'll find over 25 local vendors including Full Quiver Farms, Grace and Gratitude, Nottalotta Acres Urban Farm, Pendulum Fine Meats, Jubilee Seafood Co., Gateaux Bakery, Dee's Nut Butters and It Started With a Fig Jams . There will be food trucks, music from Dustin Furlow and activities for the kids. Families, pets, strollers and bikes all are welcome.

"This is a great opportunity to support your local farmers and small businesses, and it's during the week," said organizer Lori Golding-Zontini.

Kings Grant Farmers Market, 873 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, www.facebook.com/kingsgrantfarmersmarket.

Shawn Dawkins over at Cutlass Grille in Chesapeake recently added a Sunday brunch buffet, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast items include the expected eggs, bacon, waffles and grits. But he's also serving ackee and saltfish, the national dish of his native Jamaica, as well as fried dumplings. Prime rib roast, rotisserie ham and jerk turkey will be on the carving station. Selected chicken, beef, seafood, potato and vegetable dishes will make up the hot luncheon buffet.

Every Sunday for $28 a person.

Cutlass Grille, 805 N. Battlefield Blvd. #101, Chesapeake, 757-382-0015, www.cutlassgrille.com.

Nigeria LNG exports landmark 4000th cargo to Turkey

By Udeme Akpan

NIGERIA LNG Limited (NLNG) has reached another major milestone with the exportation of its 4000th cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from its Bonny Island Terminal in Rivers State to Mamara LNG Terminal in Turkey, which also received the Company's historic 3000th cargo, three years ago.

The cargo shipped on board one of NLNG's chartered vessels, LNG Sokoto, is sold to Botas Petroleum Pipeline Corporation, and is estimated to arrive its destination by May 14.

Dr Kudo Eresia-Eke, General Manager, External Relations disclosed in a statement that NLNG exported its first cargo on October  9, 1999, to Montoir LNG Terminal, France, and has since grown to what has been described as Africa's largest single private sector industrial investment, safely and reliably supplying about seven percent of total world LNG demand.

According to him, the Company has plans to expand its production capacity at its six-train plant complex, the fourth largest LNG plant in the world, from 22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to some 30 mtpa.

He indicated that these plans are expected to stimulate upstream gas development of the country's vast gas resources and attract about US$15 billion of foreign direct investments in the upstream alone as well as another US$10 billion in the construction of the trains.

Mr. Tony Attah, Managing Director and Chief Executive said he was excited about this milestone which would not have been possible without the shared vision to build a better Nigeria.

Monetising the country's gas resources

He attributed the feat to adherence to core values of Integrity, Teamwork, Respect, Excellence and Caring; the commitment of staff; and the cooperation from Government and Shareholders as well as other stakeholders including  loyal customers.

"This milestone is coming at a crucial time. It symbolises many things. It signifies that NLNG remains a successful company. At 4000th cargo, we have shown the world that NLNG is a world-class company, safely and reliably delivering clean energy to its customers.

Secondly, and most importantly for Nigeria, it shows that it is time for gas; it is time to encourage this success story. This is the time to unleash the country's gas potentials through catalysts like Trains 7 and 8 to spur industrial and economic transformation.

"NLNG is a success that we need to sustain as an inspiration to the country. It has generated US$90 billion in revenues as well as paid US$5.5 billion in taxes. The Company has generated US$13 billion for the Federal Government through feedgas purchases and US$15 billion in dividends. While monetising the country's gas resources, the Company has contributed to the reduction in gas flaring from about 65% before it commenced operations to less than 20% today.

"In addition, NLNG has contributed significantly to the domestic LPG industry, supplying some 40% of the cooking gas available to Nigerian homes and businesses. This intervention continues as part of strategies and initiatives aimed at deepening the availability and usage of cooking gas in the country."

"In the Niger Delta region, NLNG has committed more than US$200 million to Corporate Social Responsibility projects especially in the areas of capacity building and infrastructure development. The Company is ready to further commit some N60 billion to see the Bonny-Bodo road come into reality and also commit N3 billion annually for 25 years to transform Bonny into a destination of choice.

All these are achieved with a management staff made up entirely of Nigerians and a workforce which is 95% indigenous," he added.

From an initial investment of some US$2.5billion, NLNG has grown into a US$15.6 billion investment with an asset base of about US$11billion.

It currently processes for export and domestic use, more than five trillion cubic feet of associated gas which previously would have been flared,  to liquefied natural gas (LNG) and natural gas liquids (NGLs), thereby helping to preserve the environment and support Nigeria's economic growth.

Since the start of operations in 1999, the Company has established a global reputation for being a reliable supplier as well an inspirational business model for Nigeria.

Currently, NLNG has in its chartered fleet, 23 LNG vessels, including of six new vessels, constructed in South Korea, which replaced six old vessels.

NLNG is owned by four shareholders, namely, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC (49%), Shell Gas BV, SGBV, (25.6%), Total Gaz Electricite Holdings France (15%), and Eni International N.A. N. V. S.àr.l (10.4%).

Fewer investors are currently willing to invest in Turkey’s property market

Fewer investors are currently willing to invest in Turkey's property market

Economic and political turmoil in Turkey is making many investors 'rethink' their strategy when it comes to investing in the country's property market

Residential property prices in Turkey have increased significantly in recent years, fuelled by an expanding middle class with access to mortgage finance for the first time. But the military coup last year marked a monumental turning point in Turkey's political history, and altered the attitude of many national and international property investors when it comes to investing in Turkey's property market.

Worse still, the country has been subject to a number of terrorist attacks, with more than 300 people killed over the past 18 months.

Istanbul, home to almost 15 million people, is typically the destination of choice for many investors buying property in Turkey, with the average price of a home in the city having almost tripled between 2010 and 2017, according to Knight Frank.

But with the economy slowing, property prices look set to fall.

Firuz Soyuer of Pamir & Soyuer, an estate agency based in Istanbul, told the press: "Even before the coup, the stalling economy meant investors, both foreign and domestic, were rethinking Turkish property."

MANCHESTER, Vt. -

Tucked away in southern Vermont is a connection to one of America's most known presidents.

The house belongs to President Abraham Linclon's son.

"Robert Lincoln, of course, this is his summer home. He was the son, the only son to survive to adulthood of President Abraham Lincoln," said Bruce White, who works at Hildene, the name of estate.

With 24 rooms, Hildene became a destination for Lincoln's family.

"I think when he saw this view he was pretty much in awe and had to purchase it," said White.

Inside the house it is a museum set up like it was during the turn of the century.

Outside, Channel 3's Ike Bendavid was given a tour of the gardens by the master gardener.

"Our main display, especially this time of the year, are the peonies. Most of the peonies that we have were inherited with the estate. So they are original at some point. We don't have plant records, not too many of them," said master gardener Andrea Luchini.

But why is this garden so special? Lunchini says they believe Robert's daughter Jesse designed the garden as a gift to her mother, Mary.

"She designed it to look like a stained glass window, so if you look at it from the second floor sitting room you can see that lay out," said Luchini.

From inside to outside, it's a summer home with history.

But you decide which is more beautiful; the home or the view.

Greece the 'standout destination' for Thomas Cook

Travel giant Thomas Cook has hailed Greece as the "standout destination" for holidaymakers this summer, but confirmed bookings to Egypt and Turkey were recovering after terrorist attacks hit demand.

The group said Egypt has seen a "significant" rise in bookings in recent weeks thanks to affordable deals, while demand for Turkey has also improved with sales holding firm on a year earlier.

Demand for trips to Egypt and Turkey plunged after the bombing of a plane from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and a violent attempted coup by the Turkish army, which has been followed by a string of terrorist attacks in the country .

Thomas Cook has since focused on other resorts, with Greece becoming increasingly popular.

It said holiday sales to Greece surged 36% in the half-year to March 31, which helped lift interim revenues by nearly 3%.

The group said the jump in sales from bookings to Greece, as well as strong demand for Spain and long-haul destinations, offset a 41% plunge in sales to Turkey.

Half-year revenues rose 2.6% on a like-for-like basis to £3 billion in the six months to March 31, while seasonal losses narrowed to £272 million from £283 million a year earlier.

Peter Fankhauser, chief executive of Thomas Cook, said: "Greece continues to be the standout destination for summer 17, while customers are also seeking out smaller European destinations like Cyprus and Bulgaria, as well as travelling further afield.

"In contrast, following strong growth last year, bookings to the Spanish Islands have levelled off in a very competitive market."

Thomas Cook said its summer holidays are 61% sold so far, with UK bookings 2% higher against a 12% rise in the wider group.

Aside from Greece, other popular destinations include Cyprus, Bulgaria and Croatia.

Package holiday selling prices are up 8% in its UK business after it hiked deals to Spain to offset moves by hoteliers to increase prices after seeing a boom in demand in recent years.

It has also focused on more expensive deals, which has dented UK bookings growth.

The group said its UK business was "managing through a more competitive market to the Spanish Islands, focusing on selling higher margin, quality holidays rather than pursuing volume growth", adding that demand had now eased off to Spain.

Greg Johnson, analyst at Shore Capital, said Thomas Cook "appears in better shape than it has for a number of years".

Trivago reveals this year's top destinations

Published on Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Reykjavik is the holiday destination that has seen the biggest leap in popularity over the past two years, according to hotel comparison site Trivago.

Analysing data from users worldwide, it found that Cuba's largest beach resort, Varadero, was the second most popular destination.

In its Global Summer Trends report, Trivago said only Spain featured twice in the top 10 trending destinations, with Alicante in fourth place and Torrevieja in tenth.

Fethiye in Turkey, which has seen many UK operators reduce or cancel their programmes this year due to a spate of terror attacks, was the third most popular.

Malacca in Malaysia, Cartagena in Colombia, Cancun, Cape Town and the Croatian resort of Crikvenica complete the top 10.

Reykjavík Tops Trivago's Trending Destination List

May, 16 2017This year, trivago.co.uk reveals 2017's worldwide trending destinations as part of their annual Global Summer Trends research. Using exclusive price data from the past two years on trivago platforms around the world, trivago has identified the destinations that have seen the largest increase in popularity over this period.

This year, trivago.co.uk reveals 2017's worldwide trending destinations as part of their annual Global Summer Trends research.

Using exclusive price data from the past two years on trivago platforms around the world, trivago has identified the destinations that have seen the largest increase in popularity over this period.

The number one trending destination for 2017 is Iceland's capital, Reykjavik. This is the destination that has shown the greatest increase in searches over the past two years.

This is followed by Cuba's Varadero, coming in at number two and ranking higher than the country's capital, Havana.

The one country to feature twice in the list is Spain. Both destinations are located in the Southeastern Alicante province: the eponymous town of Alicante coming in at number four and the nearby Torrevieja at ten.

European destinations make up 50% of the results: Iceland, Turkey, Spain and Croatia are the four European countries making the top list.

One of the smallest destinations in the top ten is Crikvenica on Croatia's Adriatic coast, which is ninth in the ranking.

Trending Destinations 2017: The Top Ten

Table - Trending Destinations 2017: The Top Ten

Eleanor Kutylowski, External Relations: 'Even though most of the destinations in the top ten offer sunshine and sandy beaches, the top spot for 2017 is taken by Iceland's Reykjavik, an alternative to the traditional summer beach holiday.

Europe is the place to be this year, with European destinations making up half of the top ten. For those looking to venture abroad, these destinations are perfect for a short haul break, however with most UK travellers choosing to holiday for an average of 7 days, the long-haul options outside of the continent are set to be just as popular.

    Argyle, Texas: BBQ Destination

With two recently opened barbecue joints north of Fort Worth, the tiny town of Argyle has turned into a barbecue destination. Bumbershoot Barbecue and 407 BBQ couldn't be more different. The former is anchored by a vintage-looking food trailer that could've been plucked from the streets of Austin. The latter is housed in a bare-bones building on wheels parked next to a liquor store. But it's their differences that make them the perfect pair.

Exit 76 on I-35W is home to Corral City, a privately-owned town incorporated in 1973 in order to sell liquor. (Every business there has an Argyle address.) Late last year, Bryan McLarty was serving barbecue at one of his many catering gigs, and a man from the investment group that controls Corral City was so impressed with his food that he implored him to open a barbecue joint. McLarty had competed in barbecue competitions and catered for 18 years, but had never done retail. He was hesitant at first, but by October, 407 BBQ was serving classic smoked meats from a food truck along FM 407 in Corral City.

In January, the business moved into its current trailer with unfinished walls and a wood floor. Diners pass by the five picnic tables covered in plastic tablecloths to order at the counter on wheels. The barbecue is cut in the kitchen and passed through a sliding window into the dining room. It's about as basic of a barbecue joint as you'll find that doesn't benefit from some sort of grandfather clause, and that was part of McLarty's design: start small and grow the venue as the popularity grows. The plan is working, and soon they'll move across the street to a bigger lot and larger building.

McLarty said his time on the competition circuit doesn't have much influence on his menu of classic Texas barbecue. "[Competition barbecue] is about how much goop can you put on it and how much goop can you inject in it," he says. At 407, the flavors are clean and seasonings pretty simple, though McLarty can't help but serve Head Country sauce, a competition barbecue favorite. I loved the thick but tender pork ribs with a generous dose of black pepper. Smoky slices of turkey breast had an herb-heavy rub, and were plenty juicy. A slab of bologna, heavily scored on the edges, picked up a good bit of that hickory smoke. The generous serving of brisket paired lean slices on the dry side and fatty slices that needed more time to render to some fat.

Over two visits, the most impressive meat was the smoked half chicken. The brined bird was incredibly juicy, a little bit spicy, and just the right amount of smoky. As for the sides, the beans are of the sweet, canned variety. Potato salad and slaw are about as basic as they come, but they're a safer bet than the mushy smoked corn on the cob. The cobs are seasoned with grains of black pepper big enough that you'll have more than corn stuck in your teeth.

As expected when the kitchen staff includes a chef and a pitmaster, the sides get a lot fancier a couple miles east at Bumbershoot Barbecue. Co-owner Sparky Pearson credits his chef Chad Kelley (who is also the chef at Barley & Board in Denton) with the satisfying pinto beans. Pitmaster Jason Ramey gets the blame for the slaw with apple slices so large it looks more like a fruit salad, and don't even think about ruining a pulled pork sandwich with the stuff. Those sandwiches were my favorite item. Smokey shredded pork was excellent topped with sauce and thick-cut dill pickles tucked in between two thick slices of grilled bread from Chicago's Highland Bakery.

I've never seen tater tots get so much attention at a barbecue joint before, but these loaded tots are popular for a reason. For $10, a pile of crispy potato nuggets are loaded onto shredded cheddar, which melts under the heat. On top is chopped brisket (a pre-sauced sloppy joe variety), sour cream, and fresh jalapeño slices (pictured at the top). It tastes as good as it looks.

Minus the properly smoked turkey, I had less success with the barbecue platter. The sliced brisket was dry, the ribs had so much rub it formed its own removable layer, and the brisket sausage was mush surrounded by a casing so chewy it required a knife. I forgot it all after another bite of that sandwich.

Pearson, who lives in Argyle and owns three other restaurants in town, said Bumbershoot is most popular on evenings and weekends. It's a comfortable spot, that should remain so in the summer with shade trees and umbrellas over the dozen or so hexagonal picnic tables. The staff will supply paint and brushes to any kids looking to help paint the fence around the lot. It feels like a place I might linger if I lived in Argyle.

Bumbershoot opened in April, a few months after 407 BBQ. McLarty may have been in the neighborhood first, but he's happy to have the company, sharing pizza together over at the Pearson-owned Earl's 377 in Argyle. Pearson shared the sentiment about his barbecue brethren on the other side of the interstate. If people have more than one reason to drive up to Argyle, that's better for both businesses. There's never anything wrong with a little road trip that leads to barbecue for lunch and dinner.

Dozens killed in bus crash in Turkey

A tour bus tipped on a serpentine mountain road in Turkey, killing 24 people as it fell off a cliff and hit a car, Turkish authorities say.

The governor of Mugla province, Amir Cicek, said the driver is among the dead and the accident may have been caused by a failure in the bus's braking system on Saturday. He said investigations were continuing to determine the exact cause.

Cicek said the bus flipped over on a bend in the road and fell 15 metres down a cliff as it was travelling from the coastal province of Izmir to Marmaris, a popular tourist destination.

He said 10 people remain in critical condition and all the passengers were Turkish.

The deputy governor of Mugla province, Kamil Koten, told Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency that most of those killed were women.

Anadolu said the bus was in a convoy of six, carrying mostly women and children for a Mother's Day event.

Destination Imagination Global Finals to Return to Campus Next Week

The Destination Imagination Global Finals returns to campus next week for its 17th year in Knoxville.

This year's event will feature Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger, a former high school science teacher who was part of NASA's space shuttle mission STS-131 in 2010. She spent 15 days in space and helped resupply the International Space Station with hardware, science, and equipment.

Metcalf-Lindenburger, who was a special guest at last year's Global Finals, will host two free inspirational sessions for DI participants and speak at the DI high school and college graduation ceremonies.

More than 17,000 people, including 8,000 student participants, are expected to attend this year's Global Finals. DI events will be held in multiple locations in and around campus, including the Knoxville Convention Center, World's Fair Park, TRECS, and Thompson-Boling Arena. Most events are closed to the public and require passes.

Teams will begin checking in on Monday, May 22, with competition events running Wednesday, May 24, through Friday, May 26. The closing ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 27.

The Global Finals is the culminating event of the Destination Imagination season. DI teams that advance past regional and affiliate tournaments are invited to participate in Global Finals.

The focus of the four-day event is fostering creativity and curiosity through hands-on challenges, camps, and workshops. This year's competitors come from 17 countries, including the United States, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Cayman Islands, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Israel, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Turkey.

DI's mission is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. The volunteer-led nonprofit organization teaches students the creative process through science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts, and through service-learning challenges. In its 30 years, more than 1.5 million kids have participated in DI events.

People Are Now Getting Married In Hunza Instead Of Places Like Turkey And It’s Actually Kinda Cool

Shaadi is something that literally everyone has gone to, even if not experienced it, yet. After all, it is one of the most important moments in some people's lives. There are people who want just the most lavish, grand, fancy weddings with the whole city invited as guests.

Increasingly, there are folks who want to get married in destinations that are as beautiful as the wedding's set up, maybe even more so.

Usually, it's people going to international venues for their destination wedding

But destination wedding is a concept that hardly anyone dislikes provided there are no budget constraints and the hassle of organizing a shaadi at such a big scale.

But people are now getting their "destination wedding" in Hunza

Recently, an Islamabad based tour agency 'Hunza on Foot' has introduced Hunza Destination Weddings and we are totally drooling over the photos because the pictures are GORGEOUS AF.

The story behind Hunza On Foot's creation is one of passion and peace. According to the founder Naveed Khan, "about a year ago I left my full time job in search of some peace and to rid myself of everything that was wrong. I found this peace, as well as myself in the Karakoram mountain range that's spread between Hunza and Khunjerab. Maybe you can find this peace too!

While I will try to organize tours that are as comfortable as possible, there will be times when you will have to rough it out. Hunza On Foot is not just any other tour – and while it is by no means the toughest tour out there (that can be arranged though), it's planned so you slow yourself down so much that you have no other choice but to soak in everything around you. Something that will never happen if you drive on by."

The best thing is that the company is claiming to be environmentally conscious so as to make sure your destination wedding isn't hurting the environment I MEAN WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO GET MARRIED HERE?

Humbled and honoured to have done this destination #wedding shoot in #Hunza. Couldn't have done it without the help of @hunzaonfoot @mffix.online @sananaeem86.
