After three years of hard work, Chennai lad J Bubeshwar is living his dream now as he is all set to fly to Turkey today for the ISF World Schools Championships 2016. Organised once in four years, this championship will see top athletes from schools around the globe participate. Six other top athletes from Chennai schools, Ajith Kumar, C Praveen, Priyadarshini Suresh , Santra Teresa Martin, V Tamilselvi and Hemamalini, too, will be competing in the championship, which will be held from July 11 to 18 at Trabzon in Turkey.Currently, the young athletes are in New Delhi, training at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with the rest of the Indian contingent. Bubeshwar says that the focus is to stay injury-free. "We have been in New Delhi for the last one week. Now, we are maintaining a right balance of workouts, diet and rest. It is important that we stay injury- free." The 16-year-old long jumper says that he started as a sprinter in sports. "But when I joined the training academy in Chennai, my coach spotted my skills in long jump. Since then, I have been training in long jump. This championship will be my first international exposure."Another athlete, Ajith, says that he is banking on maintaining the best time he clocked at school nationals in Ranchi, last year. "I clocked my best of 10.07secs in 100m last year and I have been consistent with my speed since then. If I manage to maintain that, I stand a chance to win a medal in Turkey," states Ajith, who will also represent the country in 200m. C Praveen, a class XI student, who is a triple jumper, says, "I just know that it's going to be a big event. This being my first international championship, I will give it my best shot.
