Last Saturday, a convoy of Russian tourists was a welcome sight in the Turkish resort town of Antalya.
"The smiling Russians were treated to champagne, flowers, and upbeat music as they toted their suitcases toward rows of eager taxis," CNN reported.
Turkish tourism has suffered, with the refugee crisis, terrorist attacks and diplomatic tension with Russia, one of its key tourism markets, keeping visitors away from its resort towns and beaches.
Russian President Vladmir Putin finally received the apology he had long sought and now, it seems, relations have been smoothed over.
"According to CNN, the Russian tourists' return over the weekend is the first sign of thawing relations between the two nations. Russians are snatching up discounted vacation packages, seemingly happy to once again be able to book affordable holidays in Turkey, as opposed to pricier destinations such as Bulgaria or Spain. Lucrative charter flights are expected to resume soon."
