Audi Dublin International Film Festival celebrates all that is good about the Irish film industry as well as hosting some fascinating guests and films from overseas. This year they have lined up Swedish film Cloudboy, directed by Meikeminne Clinckspoor, African orphan tale Liyana, directed by Amanda Kopp & Aaron Kopp some classic restorations and a very strong animation programme. Emile Nolde: Colour is Life, National Gallery of Ireland (14 February - 10 June 2018)

The work of German Expressionist artist Emil Nolde visits in a riot of bold and beautiful colour at the National Gallery. Expect scenes of Berlin café culture, calligraphic views of the River Elbe, brilliant studies made on travels to the South Seas, as well as portraits, flower paintings, and imaginative depictions of fantastical creatures in both oils and watercolours. This exhibition will be the first to showcase the work of this important artist in Ireland for over fifty years.

International Literature Festival Dublin (19 – 27 May 2018)

Dublin as a UNESCO City of Literature has an International Literature Festival to be proud of. This year welcomes two-time Booker prize winner Peter Carey. Peter Carey's novels include The Long Way Home, Oscar and Lucinda and The True History of the Kelly Gang. He discusses his latest work with novelist Joseph O'Connor, in this special one-off event in the Pepper Canister Church on the 19th of January.

Derry

The Walled City is in revival and there's never been a better time to visit. With craft breweries, great restaurants and a host of cultural events, a break in Derry is a real eye-opener. Imbolc International Music Festival (28 January- 4 February 2018)

LegenDerry Food Festival (17 - 18 March 2018)

Voted 'Best NI Food Event' at the NI Year of Food and Drink Awards, The LegenDerry Food Festival is back in the Guildhall Square this year. Celebrating Derry's flourishing foodie culture there's a line up of Derry's finest chefs, restaurateurs and producers along with musical performances, street theatre and LegenDerry themed activities.

Wexford

Wexford Festival Opera (19 October – 4 November 2018)

The internationally renowned opera happening celebrates its 67th year in Wexford. While the programme is yet to be decided for 2018 you can rest assured a stellar line up is guaranteed.

Galway

Galway Theatre Festival 04th - 12th May 2018

The Galway Theatre Festival, now in its 10th year, will take place throughout the city with the inclusion of more venues than before including An Taibhdhearc, Druid Lane Theatre, the Town Hall Theatre, and of course, the Nuns Island Theatre. Galway theatre companies feature heavily in the programme with Blue Teapot, Mephisto, Fregoli, Moonfish, and Vagabond all involved.

 

Belfast
